The Tulip Festival in Amsterdam is a vibrant celebration of the iconic Dutch flower, showcasing millions of tulips in bloom across the city. Held annually from late March to mid-May, the festival transforms parks, gardens, and even streets into a riot of color with tulips of all shapes and hues. Visitors can explore the famous Keukenhof Gardens, known as the “Garden of Europe,” to marvel at intricate tulip displays and immerse themselves in the beauty of this beloved flower. The National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, DC is a stunning celebration of the arrival of spring and the gift of thousands of beautiful cherry blossom trees from Japan in 1912. The festival typically takes place in late March to early April when the blossoms are in full bloom, painting the Tidal Basin area with shades of pink and white. Visitors can enjoy a variety of events during the festival, including a parade, traditional Japanese performances, cultural exhibits, and of course, peaceful walks under the blooming trees. Not a flower festival or garden show but we couldn’t not mention Monet’s Garden during the spring time. It’s simply spectacular! The beauty of Monet’s Garden in Giverny, France, is immortalized in the artist’s paintings. From April to October, this idyllic sanctuary bursts with blooming flowers, water lilies, and wisteria, reflecting Monet’s love for nature and light. Wander through the flower-filled pathways, cross the iconic Japanese bridge, and immerse yourself in the charm of this floral masterpiece.

The gardens are divided into two main parts: the Clos Normand, which is a formal garden with flower beds of different colors, and the Water Garden, famous for its Japanese bridge, water lilies, and willows.

Located just 1.5 hours north of Paris, this is a great day trip to include in your itinerary.

Best Time to Visit: April through May

Celebrate the vibrant floral culture of Madeira at the annual Flower Festival (established in 1954) in late April or early May.  Join the festivities in Funchal as the city transforms into a floral wonderland with parades, floral displays, and street decorations adorned with fresh blooms. Experience the beauty of Madeira’s blooming flowers and immerse yourself in the island’s rich botanical heritage.

One of the coolest parts of the festival is the Flower Parade, where you can see floats decked out in all sorts of beautiful flower arrangements made from local blooms like orchids, roses, and birds of paradise.

The Wildflower International Festival in Bohinj, Slovenia, is usually held in the late spring or early summer months, typically taking place when the alpine meadows are in full bloom with a vibrant display of wildflowers. This timing ensures that visitors can experience the beauty of the local flora at its peak, with the colorful blooms adding an extra layer of magic to the already stunning Bohinj surroundings. It’s a perfect time to visit and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of wildflowers while enjoying the natural beauty of the Bohinj Valley and the Triglav National Park.
